The Journey
The youth volunteers have been eager to execute this event since the very first idea of the basketball tournament in July all the way through to August 31st. After countless hours of intricate planning, making flyers, acquiring courts, getting trophies, seeking donations, and making sure all minor details were set, the amazing youth team was very excited to see their vision come together the day of the tournament. Many of our dedicated youth have gone day after day asking for donations and setting up flyers to share our excitement to others. In Sreenidhi’s words, “As a youth volunteer, from making the flyer to being a scorekeeper at the event, I have personally enjoyed every single moment of the tournament because of the enthusiastic and phenomenal volunteers and players“.
Our Reason Why?
The Nethravidalaya school for blind is located in rural India. This school not only assists students in how to learn independently but also teaches them many different skills such as robotics and sports. The Nethravidlaya students have many impressive achievements in the robotics field and have even gotten special permission to compete in international competitions. These talented students are the real inspiration for the Boston youth volunteers. The youth volunteers are in awe when seeing these kids who are exceptional, which only pushes the Boston team to try to help as much as they can to support these kids through their incredible journey!
The Event
The first annual VT Seva Boston 3v3 basketball tournament was an amazing success and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. The volunteers didn’t just stop at planning the details, but they were also the referees, scorekeepers, food stall managers, and registration desk workers. Although a few challenges arrived throughout the event, the youth were able to find solutions using their quick thinking skills. Many teams have expressed that they had lots of fun and are already geared up for next year’s tournament. The funds raised through this event were able to support 5 blind students' education. The VT Seva Boston team would like to thank Panera Breads for generously supplying pastries for this fundraiser and St. Johns High School for letting the youth volunteers use their multi-purpose courts. Additionally, thank you to all the players and supporters who have shown up to the event and shared our mission to others in hopes of supporting our reason why in any way possible.
