He that plants trees loves others besides himself. - Dr Thomas Fuller
Starting in February, Seattle VT Seva youth group began the Eco-Fundraiser “Plant it for the Planet” project. This project had an amazing impact on our environment and also helped India fight COVID-19. With the help of VTS youth volunteers from Seattle, we were able to raise a total of $2500+ to help India’s COVID relief efforts.
As part of this project, youth volunteers all signed up to grow a diverse number of vegetable plants at home. Each volunteer nurtured and grew their organic plants for several weeks. After these vegetable plants were ready to be planted outside, we held an event in Sammamish, Washington where we set up a tent with 100+ plants. People passing by our tent were amazed by the dedication and hard work our youth members put into growing these plants. They picked up plants they wanted for their spring garden and in return, they donated an amount to help with India’s COVID-19 efforts.
This project wasn’t only focused on raising money but another goal we had was to raise awareness about our earth. By encouraging everyone to grow vegetables at home, we are helping eliminate the use of chemicals, plastic packaging and machinery. In the end, preserving our own earth is the least we can give back for everything our planet has given us!
The eco-fundraiser was absolutely an amazing project that many dedicated youth volunteers were able to take part in and make it a success.
Thank you to all the volunteers who took part in this great initiative in not only raising funds but also creating awareness in community about the planet.
Thank you,
