- A Vision Beyond Sight
Nethra Vidyalaya’s robotics team journey: Nethra Vidyalaya's visually challenged robotics team, Thought Notch Robotica , embarked on an inspiring journey to the USA to participate in the FIRST World Championship! This event, renowned for bringing together the brightest young minds in robotics, served as a platform for the team to showcase their skills, creativity, and innovation on a global stage. The team's journey was not just about competition but also about learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange. They interacted with teams from around the world, gained exposure to advanced robotics technologies, and shared their unique perspectives and experiences. This participation not only highlighted their technical prowess but also underscored the importance of inclusive education and the remarkable achievements possible when barriers are overcome. Hi, my name is Oviya Jaisankar . I’m a VT Seva Detroit Youth volunteer and a team captain for my robotics team. I’m excited to share my journey in raising money to provide equality in engineering for a visually challenged team’s FIRST Championship dream. The Fundraising Process In March and April of 2024, dedicated VT Seva volunteers launched an inspiring mission - to fund the journeys and registrations of Nethra Vidyalaya students to the prestigious FIRST Robotics World Championship. Each volunteer-created their own Flipcause page to fuel this fundraising endeavor, transforming personal initiative into collective support. As a passionate robotics student, team captain, and long-time VT Seva volunteer, I felt an immediate drive to lead this cause. The Thought Notch Robotica team’s hard work and dedication earned them an invitation to the World Championship, and I wanted to ensure they experienced this incredible opportunity. Drawing from my own unforgettable experiences at the Houston World Championship, I launched my Flipcause page and rallied support from friends and family, passionately explaining the cause and my personal connection to it. My brother Harish, previously a robotics team captain and currently a mentor for our team, was the first one to support my campaign. Despite the initial surge of backing, I knew I needed to amplify my efforts, leading to the idea of organizing a Bottle/Can drive in my local neighborhoods. Our First Fundraiser To kickstart the drive, I crafted a compelling flyer detailing the cause and the initiative. After several drafts to ensure it was perfect, my brother and I spent an evening distributing these flyers to doorsteps throughout the community, sharing our vision and goals with our neighbors. Weeks later, we eagerly drove through the neighborhoods to collect bags of bottles and cans left on porches. After a productive afternoon, we visited local supermarkets to recycle the cans and convert them into donations for our fundraiser. The success of the bottle/can drive was encouraging, but I knew my efforts couldn't stop there. Driven by a desire to do more, I brainstormed new ideas and decided to inspire my robotics team to support an international team, recognizing the shared dedication and hard work required to reach this milestone. Support from Team 2832, the Livonia Warriors With this new vision, I approached my head coach Ms. Isolina Carlini of the Livonia Warriors Team 2832 and passionately shared our fundraiser details, information about the cause, and the dedication of our incredible Nethra Vidyalaya students. Her enthusiasm was contagious! Together, we established a Flipcause page for our team and circulated the cause’s details among team members and their families. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with donations pouring in from our Livonia Robotics community. To further our efforts, we organized restaurant fundraisers at two local eateries. These events not only raised substantial funds but also brought the community together in support of our mission. The success of these fundraisers was a testament to our team’s dedication and the community’s willingness to support a meaningful cause. Additionally, we posted flyers about the fundraiser during our home robotics competition at Livonia Churchill High School, significantly boosting our impact. Looking Forward I'm proud to announce that our Livonia teams will continue supporting Thought Notch Robotica in the coming years, assisting with seasonal expenses and even securing corporate sponsors for the team. Participating in this fundraiser has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s heartwarming to help others experience the thrill of the FIRST World Championship and witness the fruition of their hard work. Conceiving and executing ideas to fund these deserving students has been a fulfilling journey, and I eagerly anticipate their future achievements. A huge thanks to my Robotics team, friends, and family for all the support provided for this fundraiser! With everyone’s support, Nethra Vidyalaya's robotics team attended their first-ever FIRST World’s Championship team demonstrated their commitment to excellence and their ability to compete at an international level, inspiring others and bringing pride to their community. - Baking for a Brighter Future
A Heartwarming Bake Sale Story (Homemade Goodies for Our Peers’ Education) Hello, everyone! My name is Abisrishti Ram . I am a youth volunteer of VT SEVA Detroit Youth Board, and I’m thrilled to share an inspiring story with you. On October 28th, 2023, I organized a bake sale with a purpose to raise funds and donate for the education of children at NethraVidhyala School supported by VT SEVA. Let me take you through this heartwarming journey. The Motivation VT SEVA supported NethraVidhyala school students’ remarkable achievements deeply impressed me. Their determination and resilience inspired me to take action. I firmly believe that education should be accessible to all, regardless of their circumstances. With this conviction, I embarked on a mission to make a difference. Baking with Purpose Having baked countless treats for my family and friends, I decided to channel my passion into something meaningful. I set my sights on sponsoring the education of at least one student, which required raising $365 . The Power of Teamwork Knowing that I couldn’t achieve this goal alone, I rallied my friends (Shruthi and Kirupali) . Together, we formed a team of enthusiastic bakers and salespeople. Our shared commitment fueled our efforts. Crafting Vegan Delights Recognizing the growing interest in vegan options, I spent a week experimenting with various vegan cookie recipes. Once I perfected them, I documented the recipes—essential for transparency regarding ingredients and potential allergies. Our menu featured sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and pumpkin spice cookies (courtesy of my talented friend). Preparation and Setup The day before the bake sale, I diligently prepared the cookie dough, allowing it to chill for optimal flavor. On the big day, we set up a charming table outside my garage. Each baked item came with its recipe, prominently displayed for visitors to see. We wanted everyone to feel confident about their choices, especially those with dietary restrictions. Sales and Outreach Sales started slowly in the morning, but as the day progressed, our efforts paid off. Undeterred, we hit the streets, distributing bake sale flyers door-to-door. Along the way, we honed our sales skills and learned valuable lessons about customer service. Not everyone was friendly, but we remained focused on our mission. The Irresistible Selling Point Our secret weapon? The tagline: “Homemade Goodies for Our Peers’ Education!” This simple phrase resonated with our community, emphasizing the dual purpose of our bake sale. Triumph and Impact By day’s end, we had surpassed our initial goal. Together, we raised over $750 , enough to sponsor the education of two children at NethraVidalya . The joy and fulfillment we felt were immeasurable. This experience has left an indelible mark on my heart, and I’m committed to making it an annual tradition. A Call to Action As I reflect on this journey, I encourage everyone to use their abilities to uplift others. Let’s create a world where education knows no barriers. 🌟 Blog written by: Abisrishti Ram Blog Published by: Nandini Cheemalamarri

April 2023 Waste Water Facility Tour VT Seva Atlanta facilitated 2nd Waste Water Facility Tour on April 4, 2023. More than 70 plus VT youths and parents participated in this educational tour. We had a warm welcome by the organizers, David Horton and Camilla Russell and were led into the main conference room. Their we learned about trash, debris, etc are present in waste water and what prices it goes through to get clean drinkable water again. We understood how important it is to use the water responsibly without wasting it during brushing the teeth and taking long showers. We had a wonderful Q&A session in which VT youths participated actively and got to know information like how this facility cleans 12000 tons of water every day and send that water to residential areas, businesses and finally, extra water to Chattahoochee river. Later, we were taken inside to see the waste water plant and we got good insights on architectural design, monitoring system, and how they control the odor and sound of this big plant. This waste water tour was facilitated by Jeya, Hithesh, and Madhu, Atlanta VT Seva core members. Overall, Atlanta youths had a great interactive session where they got the insights on waste water treatment process, dewatering, recycling, wastewater landscape and much more… We have build good relationship & partnership with the Johns creek environmental officials and they were thrilled to see our youths participation and feedback from the last tour. We all had fun, got color changing water bottles as a gift from them, and went home with some really good take-homes. As a VT Seva team, we gave them VT Seva Calendar, Brochure, and hand-made Thank you cards. They have never heard about VT Seva before, but now it’s in their minds and they want our youths to come forward and collaborate & help them in their research projects. Its’s a great learning, enriching, and rewarding experience for us as Atlanta VT Seva team. March 2023 Waste Water Facility Tour Have you ever thought about where your water goes from the sink and toilet once it flows down the drain? VT Seva Atlanta inspired youth to know what goes behind a water treatment facility and how to use water responsibly and take action to make a difference. At the amazing Johns Creek Wastewater treatment facility on March 10th , 2023, around 30 Atlanta youth toured the facility to learn the importance of water. The facility staff had been extremely professional and showed us all the processes that go on in the facility. The first process Bar Screening takes away all the big items like rags, plastic, and other big items. Then it goes to the grit chamber where this whirlwind takes down all the grit, rocks, and sand. Then the water goes to a place where they let the water sit because the small particles will slowly sink to the bottom allowing the top water to be cleaner. After that process, the water reaches this chamber where small microbes and membranes will break down the harmful bacteria in the water. Before the UV light process it is taken to a tank where this membrane technology called Zeeweed has microscopic holes that will transport only the clean water to the top so the treatment can continue. Next it is sent to this UV light that is able to destroy the rest of the harmful bacteria. Last but not least they add chlorine and other helpful chemicals to make it extremely clean. All that water that has been made will go back to the Chattahoochee River for further uses. The tour was very educational and helped us learn about water and how to treat it before sending it back into the river. This is a sustainable way of recycling important Mother Earth’s natural resources which is water, and keeping the Earth clean for other animals, aquatic, plant life and future generations.

March Everyday, we text people because it is quick and easy, but sometimes, writing a letter can be more personal, allow for more depth of communication, and can have more formality. It is vital that we are connected with our loved ones, and we should make them feel appreciated whenever possible. To do this South Forsyth High School VT Seva, started a letter-writing activity that has helped teenagers connect with their loved ones on a deeper level. It was a fairly successful project and we observed that our volunteers were able to connect with their family and friends! October SFHS youth made book marks, kindness stones, and thank you cards in the month of November to celebrate and appreciate the hard work and support of teachers , and promote education and reading. They gave cards to healthcare workers, police officers, and fire fighters to thank them. VT Seva Atlanta - South Forsyth High Nature write up SFHS VT Seva's first project was the Nature Writeup in which our members wrote paragraphs about times when they helped nature, how nature has affected them, or simply about the beautiful aspects on nature. We chose this topic as we thought of the start of seasonal change in September, when the a light chill mixes with the air, the sky blue deepens in shade, and the leaves of the trees gradually turn orange and red. This beautiful nature compelled us to start this project and spread the knowledge and appreciation of nature to everyone around us. We had a total of 22 very well written responses, and we compiled them all into a portfolio named "The Canvas of Nature" to portray our members' creativity and inspiration from nature! https://www.canva.com/design/DAFvlXzoMtI/rJdENHfFn5NMiYUnjfbeyQ/view?utm_content=DAFvlXzoMtI&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=publishsharelink#1 Club Initiation South Forsyth Highschool is our 7th VT Seva youth Club in Atlanta. It is established on August 28, 2023. Please read the message below from our youth club President Nikhila, very inspirational Hello everyone, my name is Nikhila Mannepalli, and I am the President of South Forsyth High School VT Seva Club! Our now VT Seva members including myself have been separately trying to start this VT Seva club since January of this year, long before any of us knew there were others trying to start the club. It was a difficult process at that time, as no teacher was willing to sponsor the club, we hardly had any members, and the process was very scattered and unorganized. Throughout those experiences, each one of us learned a lot individually about communication, teamwork, and taking initiative, and got together to form a new, bigger SFHS VT Seva group at the beginning of August. Soon enough, with proper communication, productive meetings, discussions, and good organization, we were able to successfully find a sponsor, submit an application, and get the club approved today! What was taking us months of time as we attempted to start the club separately took mere weeks when we all came together to be a team.
- VT Seva Atlanta Chattahooche High School Youth Club
On Labor Day 2023, VT Seva 8th Youth Club in Chattahoochee Highschool was established. Another inspirational story of persistence, not to quit inspite of several rejections✌️✌️✌️ Hi all, this is Parthu Valluri, the President of VT Seva club at Chattahoochee Highschool. I'm proud to say that we have established VT Seva Youth Club in our school on Sep 1st. This club has been in the works since last year; the idea of the club was introduced to me by Madhu Aunty when I first joined VT Seva. Although it has been in the works for a while now, these last three weeks have been a series of unexpected twists and turns, as finding a proper sponsor was a huge issue. Our first two sponsors both quit immediately after submitting the application. Finding teachers only got more difficult as dozens rejected me and quickly, two weeks had flown by. It wasn't looking too good for us as time was running out. Thanks to Yoshna, one of our Vice Presidents, we managed to get a sponsor that was willing to help us last minute and thanks to him we are able to start our club! Now we are going to get started on pitching our club to the school this coming week and work together to spread VT Seva to Chattahoochee. Community service always starts small and becomes a big and beautiful collaborative activity, exactly what VT Seva Chattahoochee aspires to become. I look forward to working with my wonderful team of officers here in order to bring value to our community and to support the cause that VT Seva has brought to the world. - VT Seva Chattahoochee High School Team
